With dozens of Medicare Part D prescription drug plans available in California, choosing the best plan for the individual patient can be overwhelming, especially the low-income patient who must carefully select the most affordable plan. Even with its potential to improve the lives of millions, Medicare Part D can also be confusing for health providers who prescribe medications for their patients. Partners in D is a California statewide initiative designed to help seniors get the most out of the Part D benefit.

The first video shows Partners in D student pharmacists in action as they help an underserved senior understand her Part D options based upon her individual health needs and circumstances.

The second video captures reactions of medical students to a unique interdisciplinary, interactive teaching program in which Partners in D student pharmacists explore and explain the Part D prescription drug benefit. While this particular video highlights medical students, most attendees of these programs are physician residents and attending physicians. During these programs, physicians learn about the basics of Part D and related health policy issues. They learn the Part D perspectives of stakeholders (patients, providers, insurers) and where to find online resources. These programs are designed to be practical and clinically relevant with the goal of helping physicians ensure that their patients are enrolled in the best Part D plan and are receiving affordable medications.
